How to Wear the Colorful Faux Leather Trend

How to Wear the Colorful Faux Leather Trend

When it comes to rocking a leather, or faux leather look, black and brown are the traditional colors that spring to mind; but not for this season! Tuck the tired black jacket away, as we´re being treated to an explosion of deep colors, earthy richness and buttery soft tones. It´s not limited to outerwear either; this trend has faux leather dresses, shorts, shirts, skirts and jumpsuits all making an appearance.

You might consider a leather look tricky to pull off for us over 50´s, but I´m here to show you how we can rock this trend in the real world.

To be honest, I simply can´t get enough, so let´s jump straight in and look through how to wear faux leather this season.

The Leather Look for Spring

The leather look featured heavily on the catwalks for spring summer 2020 and it shows no signs of slowing. Designers are bringing us faux leather dresses, jumpsuits, shorts, shirts and pants in a delicious array of seasonal colors.  Luxe nudes, deep greens, rich blues and plush purples are brightening up stores for the season.  And the best news – with more and more designers opting for animal-free versions, the faux leather trend is kinder, more affordable and pretty much a no brainer.

So, how do I wear it?

A Dress of Dreams

This leather dress, from Dillards, looks (almost) good enough to eat, and I hope you´ll agree, it´s a far cry from the spray-on black pants and biker jackets of the past. I´ll take soft, sumptuous and sophisticated any day. Accessorize with earrings, heels and toss a coat over your shoulder. It´s a winner for brunch, lunch or date night.

Bermuda’s are Back

Bermuda´s are back and this tan faux leather pair from Zara are one of my top picks. They look great dressed up or down. Here I´ve styled it with boots and a graphic tee for a daytime look. Then amped it up with a bustier and corset belt for some extra va-va-voom. Which is your favorite?

Faux Leather Pants

A great pair of pants makes you feel good and this black, faux leather pair from Zara totally hold their own. The soft fabric and relaxed fit mean they’re cool and comfortable. My preferred way to style them? Keep it casual. Team them with sneakers and soft knits for a cool and comfy combo.  I love them with a turn-up too.

Glamorous in Green

This faux leather top from Zara instantly won me over. I loved it so much, I wore it for our recent Valentine’s Day celebrations. The feel, the flattering neckline, the rich green and the voluminous shoulder had me handing over my credit card quicker than you can say, well, faux leather. It´s a top that speaks for itself, so I teamed it with a waist belt and simple skirt to complete the look.

My Favorite Skirt

You´ll be happy to know, I´ve saved the best until last. I love all the pieces I´ve listed here, but if you made me pick just one, this Get Choosy Aurora skirt would be it. It´s incredibly flattering, comfortable and so versatile. Here I´ve styled it with a black knit and tan cape, whilst @kerifay wears it with a crisp white shirt. Both look fabulous if you ask me!

So, will you be embracing the faux leather trend, and which look was your favorite?

I hope I´ve offered some ideas and inspiration. If you want to grab one for yourself, you can Shop my Style here.

Otherwise, until the next time… Stay stylish.

Upgrading Your Spring Trench Coat

Upgrading Your Spring Trench Coat

If you´re anything like me, a trench coat is a must-have item for the spring season. I love how light, versatile and timeless they are, but I also love adding a twist to a classic look.

That´s why I´ve been busy hunting down five of my favorite trench coat upgrades for the 2020 Spring season. They each offer a unique twist on this classic springtime piece and would be a great addition to any closet. Let me know which one’s your favorite!

ASOS Hybrid Check Trench Coat

This trench boasts the classic tie waist, notch collar, and double-breasted design, but with an added twist. It features a splash of interest and fun with a checked lining and a relaxed fit.

The result? A stylish and casual look.

They call it the Hybrid Check Trench Coat and you can pick this up from ASOS for $151.

Pixie Marker Neck Scarf Trench Coat

This chic and versatile tan trench coat is a classic I can´t wait to get my hands on. You might expect the belted waist, side pockets, and double-breasted design, but there is more. This trench comes with a detachable neck scarf, which transforms and softens the look.

The result? A classic and quirky combination.

They call if the Neck Scarf Trench Coat and you can grab yours from Pixie Marker for $245

Eloquii Puff Sleeve Trench

This is a classic trench with some extra puff; in the sleeves I mean. This puff sleeve trench amps up the style factor, whilst still retaining the versatility of the trench that we love so much.

The result? A modernized classic with high impact.

It´s called the Puff Sleeve Trench and you can pick one up from Eloquii for $170.

Sandro Pleated Trench Coat

This stunning trench is all business in the front and party in the back. It boats the typical features you would expect from a classic trench, with a surprise pleated section in the back.

The result? A modern twist on a classic.

It’s called the Pleated Trench Coat and you can pick up yours from Sandro for $745

Get Choosy Blackjack Vest

I didn´t think a trench coat could get more versatile, but I think it just has! This can be worn tied as a dress, or open as a vest. The combination of camel and black provides a striking contrast, and the red accents around the pockets had me squealing with delight.

The result? Bold and beautiful versatility.

It´s called the Blackjack Vest and it´s currently reduced. You can pick yours up from Get Choosy for just $45.

Treat yourself before they´re gone!

Which one will you be snapping up this season?

Let me know in the comments.

How I (and my Closet) Transform with the Seasons

How I (and my Closet) Transform with the Seasons

Winter Fashion Fun

We´ve had our share of cold, dark days here in Montana. The rain, the snow and the deep freeze have all reached me on the mountain, but I don´t like the cold spoil my fun or keep me tucked away inside.

For me, it´s a chance to play, experiment, explore and have fun – both with my time and with my closet.

Here is a recent winter wonderland adventure that I hope will provide some seasonal inspiration.

Take the Blanket with You

Cosy blankets aren´t just for snuggling up in front of the fire. I decided to transform this one into a warm winter skirt and it was perfectly suited for this rather cold and snowy walk.

Belt It

Wrapped and secured with a few pins, I´ve added a brushed silver and leather belt to build up the layers and inject interest.

Layer It

Teamed with a sumptuous faux fur shawl, chunky ankle boots and a classic black roll-neck, this new winter wardrobe creation comes to life.

Cosy Winter Style

And that´s all it took to create this winter wonderland look, from nothing more than a cosy blanket I had lying around the house.

Have fun with your winter wardrobe, transform cosy blankets into comfy skirts and get yourself out there.

3 Ways to Style An Embellished Statement Coat

3 Ways to Style An Embellished Statement Coat

I hate to be the one to mention it, but the holidays are just around the corner. As we start to plan our fall menus and family activities, we also begin to plan the fun stuff: our holiday outfits! A statement piece that will take me well into the New Year is an overcoat that I found on the Chicos website. This faux-pearl embellished jacket adds just enough flair to any outfit. Whether you’re dressing it up or down, this overcoat will be my go-to this holiday season (and beyond!)

I put together some staple outfits for you to be inspired by. I hope you enjoy it.

The casual side of things. Take your dressy coat out for a daytime spin. Jeans or slacks booties or sneakers it’s all good.

Don’t let the fancy look of this jacket fool you. There are several ways you can wear it on a daily. Stay tuned for the casual side of this great coat …..

Here I have my Chicos Faux-Pearl Embellished Jacket paired with a wrap dress that I found on Choosey, layered with my favorite white skinnies and pastel Valentino Rock Studs

4 Ways To Soften Your Menswear Inspired Looks this Fall

4 Ways To Soften Your Menswear Inspired Looks this Fall

Cape it!

I love the simplicity of throwing a mens blazer over my shoulders. It automatically makes the shape softer and more feminine.

Leopard it!

Adding a leopard element to any Fall look is an instant update! These open top booties create a strong long line, don’t you think?

Embellish it!

Adding a little pearl detail never hurt anyone! It adds a feminine and soft touch to this grey oversized overcoat. It is so City Chic paired with my all white ensemble.

Cinch it!

I’ve always been a fan of belting a coat in an unexpected way. Here I am using my favorite leather Obi Belt to tie it all together!

How I’m Wearing My Favorite Fall Staple | Camel Leggings

How I’m Wearing My Favorite Fall Staple | Camel Leggings

Every season I get excited to dust off some old favorites and this Fall is no exception. One of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe for fall/winter is these Ralph Lauren camel suede leggings that I got a few seasons past (on a discount of course!). I love to come up with fresh ways to keep them relevant and this season I will be bringing the ladylike back with a classic pussy-bow blouse! I’m keeping the look less stuffy by finishing it off with a cheeky printed bootie in contrasting print. It all works because we stay in the same color family, In this case, the camel and green tones feel very earthly. But you could certainly spice up the look with a hot pink pop like those amazing Paris Texas booties linked below! Let me know what you think!

A look at the Balenciaga Retrospective at the Thyssen Museum in Marid

A look at the Balenciaga Retrospective at the Thyssen Museum in Marid

The Thyssen Museum in Madrid is presenting a private collection of one of Spains (and the worlds) most admired and influential fashion designers, Cristóbal Balenciaga. Each dress is paired along with the tradition of 16th- to 20th-century Spanish painting. My sister and her husband are currently traveling in Spain and had a unique opportunity to visit the exhibition alongside Sonsoles Diez de Rivera, a family friend and muse of Balenciaga himself.

Sonsoles is a woman who started wearing Haute Couture at the age of seven and whose communion costume was personally made for her by Balenciaga This is a woman who knows what elegance is. Here she is on the left with her mother and sister.

How To Wear White After Labor Day

How To Wear White After Labor Day

I am throwing the adage that you can’t wear white after labor day right out of the window.
After all, what is more refreshing than a white pallet? It pops in nature and on you. For me, the chicest dressing is in neutrals; a great example is Aurela-Fashionista.
As I have gotten older, I have started to play and be more confident with color, but In the end, I always go back to my roots. Neutrals are the backbone of every well-edited wardrobe, and white is the key to adding crispness and light into any ensamble. Of course, keeping it pristine is challenging while I am in Montana for the summers. But if my sister can take them on Safari, we can manage in our daily lives.

Effortless Dresses From Kaftans to Cocktails!

Effortless Dresses From Kaftans to Cocktails!

When I think of timeless silhouettes that are effortless, relaxed and always just right I think of Ala Von Auersperg. You may remember AvA from our post in April featuring an incredible ruffle sleeve kaftan perfect for a Spring/Summer wedding. If you missed it, you can check it out here. Dressing up a kaftan has been a trick up my sleeve since my hippie days and the Francoise Kaftan in this beautiful rose print is no exception.

The prints are an organic extension of my life and my work as an artist… When she moves, so does the print and she becomes the work of art. That’s why we say: Wear AvA and become your own masterpiece.

~ Ala Von Auersperg

While I was Vegas last week I went full Grecian Goddess and piled on decedent gold jewelry and my vintage Dior monogram mule sandals. I couldn’t make it through the lobby without ecstatic raves about this look!

This boldly feminine rose print is inspired by Ala’s Hamptons home.

AvA’s collection also encompasses casual day wear that can be worn for any occasion. I love that she uses the same soft airy knit mesh fabric throughout the collection. This fabric is great for layering or on their own as a coverup like I have styled here.

Side Note: I transformed a lariat necklace from Proud Pearls as a belt here! I love to create something out of something else!

Part of the enjoyment that I get out of styling is in the creativity of using what is available within the given budget. So here are some “two for one’res” to get your thrifty fashionista some inspiration today!

Summer Launch Party | the Lodge at Whitefish Lake

Summer Launch Party | the Lodge at Whitefish Lake

Welcome to Summer in Whitefish, Montana! To celebrate, the Lodge at Whitefish Lake throws an annual summer kickoff benefiting the Alpine Theater Project. Every year I go to support the local community and arts. This year the theme was 80’s yacht rock, and I was so thrilled with my chic 80’s look that I had to share! Some who attended had never seen the 80’s and some had seen too much of it! But we all dressed the part and had a blast. And the music was great also! Enjoy

I love getting ready for a theme party! The first step is finding the perfect inspiration images. I was lucky to shop my closet for this one!

My Favorite Summer Wedding Outfits From High to Low!

My Favorite Summer Wedding Outfits From High to Low!

Weddings can be an expensive proposition whether long planned or spur of the moment so we have come up with a few stylish ideas some of them inexpensive some of them a little pricier, but all of them will live in your closet for a long time.

Wear a light dress or kimono over jeans. It’s all in the shoes!

Do you have a dress that is really too see through to wear?  Use it as a topper over jeans. This inexpensive one from FloryDay.

Great shoes never go out of style and elevated any outfit.

Chico’s X 2! It doesn’t have to cost a fortune to be chic. Pants and top are from Chicos and I added a vintage broach from my collection.

I love the chic simplicity of the twist front tunic. we linked the top here and it happens to be on sale just in time for the summer wedding season!

And how cool are these silver metallic trousers? They are perfect for a summer wedding and you can pull them out again for future holiday parties. PS they are on sale right now too! You can buy them here.

Again Great shoes by Francesco Russo.

Bouquet bag by Lulu Guinness.

When you see a “quirky” item and you love it but have no idea what you will do with it….. grab it and be patient.  It might turn out to be the star of an outfit.

I’ve been saving this Lulu Guinness bag for just this moment!

This is my go-to summer wedding dress. The Mary Short Kaftan from Ala Von Auersperg is chic and surprisingly packable for any of those tropical destinations weddings that you may be attending.

Or you can customize your own dress by following this link.
