Our Favorite Fall Poncho: Lotta Stennson

Our Favorite Fall Poncho: Lotta Stennson

Ponchos and shawls make an effortless transition into colder seasons and this lightweight collection from Lotta Stennson is no exception. They make wonderful layering pieces,  or on their own as Hope Kauffman has captured here at my home in Montana. Lotta Stensson is one of our favorite collaborators. Serena and I have been champions of her work for years. When we were preparing for our multigenerational photoshoot I knew that I wanted to include pieces from Lotta’s Fall/Winter line of featherweight wool ponchos. I wanted to showcase her work in alignment with women of varying ages to show the natural beauty that we all encapsulate when we are comfortable in our skin. You may remember Lotta’s kaftans from earlier this year when we went on our Girl’s Trip to the Grand Cayman Islands. If you missed it you can check it out here.

Fall in Glacier National Park: The Crown of the Continent

Fall in Glacier National Park: The Crown of the Continent

We are fortunate enough to live in Flathead County, Montana home of Glacier National Park. Or what we refer to as “the Crown of the Continent”. Sitting on top of “The Backbone of the World” the park encompasses 1million acres including two mountain ranges, over 130 lakes and wildlife around every corner. Here you can see at least 25 glaciers and hike over 745 miles of trails. Fall has arrived in Glacier and we couldn’t resist a drive down the beautiful and colorful “Going to the Sun Road” which runs 52-miles along the Continental Divide.

Experiencing the incredible vistas and massive landscape, you can truly feel and appreciate why Glacier National Park is known as an International Peace Park. Enjoy the view…

The Little Red Bus is Iconic in the park.

The fleet of 33 buses is widely considered to be the oldest touring fleet of vehicles anywhere in the world! The buses take you to all of the main attractions in the Park. Since the views in Glacier are vertically oriented (with its very high mountain peaks) the roll-back tops are perfect to get the full majestic views of the Big Sky.

Lake McDonald

I’m a sucker for unique lighting. Here at McDonald Lodge you can curl up in front of their lifesize fireplace, sip on a hot chocolate and enjoy the view of majestic Lake McDonald.

With over 300 Grizzly Bears known to live in the park, this is about as close as you should get one!

When hiking in Glacier, don’t forget your bear spray and stay in your car if you see one on the road.

Flathead River

You’ll drive by 10 miles of Lake McDonald before you start the climb to Logan Pass.

It’s fall so we already have snow on the mountains!

Saint Mary’s Lake, East Glacier. Wild Goose Island Viewpoint

If you have the time, don’t miss Many Lakes. You leave the park on the East side and re-enter into Many Lakes.  The road is a little rough but worth it.  I’ve had the most grizzly bear sightings at Many Lakes when I’ve visited.

Hike to Grinnell Glacier the trails radiate in all directions!

Swiftcurrent Lake and Grinnell Point have always been my view from the Many Glacier Hotel. Built in 1914 by The Great Northern Railway this beautiful lodge was commissioned to open the park to visitors and establish the area as the “American Alps”

Incredibly what took a year to build in 1914 took but a few hours to demolish in the Sprague Fire of 2017.  The loss of the 104-year-old Sperry Chalet is a shock to all of us who loved it.  We are heartbroken.

A lesson in appreciating what you have when you have it.

Safe travels to all.

Lady Boss: The Return of Power Dressing

Lady Boss: The Return of Power Dressing

In a sea of casual dressing be the one who came to WORK. Your look that is!

There’s a trend happening in fashion right now that is throwing it back to the good ol days of Power Dressing with a hint of Dynasty. It is put-together, polished, Ladylike and I love it! Dressing for the job you want (hello, CEO of your life) has never looked so good. Now is the perfect time to look through your closet for those “quirky” items you couldn’t part with and pair it with your favorite corporate separates.

Every outfit needs a good statement piece or in this case the more, the merrier! I paired this gorgeous silk printed blouse with my favorite things of the moment! Mom’s alligator bag, an 80’s inspired chain belt (I mean, WOW!) and my favorite leopard Kate Spade pumps.

LadyLike Rockin-n-Roll

I bought these pants over a decade ago at Intermix in Dallas. Serena and I have always been huge proponents of anything animal print and fell in love with the color of these pants. How could I ever let go of such a statement piece? They have a great 90’s bootleg that works so well with my Forever21 boots that seem to go with everything! I have always loved the structure of a blazer paired with an unexpected rock tee.

LadyLike in White

This suit feels so 70’s disco to me! I love the dichotomy of the oversized pants with a cropped printed top.

Mixing Fall Trends: Can leopard, scarf print and neon live in harmony?

Mixing Fall Trends: Can leopard, scarf print and neon live in harmony?

I’m sure you’ve heard the news. Leopard, scarf print and neon are back for Fall in a HUGE way! Luckily for me, I have most of these trends hanging in the closet already, but can I wear them all at once?

Survey says: Yes You Can! As long as you have the right color, tone, and proportion you can mix the most unlikely trends to create a look that is all your own!

Combining colors, pattern and texture are one of my favorite things to do when I’m planning a “look.” It’s all about proportion, texture, and hue. Follow these three steps for a winning combo every time!

Shoes: Kate Spade

Purse: Vintage

I had no idea why I had been holding on to this purse for so long. By that, I mean 20 years or so. Neon or Lime? How long has it been since this color was in?

How to mix patterns and color like a pro!

Chose a standout print and a secondary print

Choose the main pattern and work around it! In my case, my Zara scarf print skirt paired Leopard pumps. I’ve always thought that leopard was neutral and can go with anything if you have the right attitude.

Be Matchy-Matchy

Pick up on a color that is predominant on your print and pair it with something off the wall. I chose my favorite Kate Spade Leopard pumps with red heels that go back to my scarf print skirt.

Keep Your colors in the same tone

This trend explosion is brought to you by BRIGHT COLORS. Work with colors that are complementary. In this case, Red & Green are complementary colors. The fact that they share the same vivid brightness is what makes it work together. Think about hue and tone when matching colors.

Scarf Print Skirt: Zara

Above all else, have a little fun, it’s only fashion after all!
